Tyler Perry's House of PAIN!
Maybe everything that Tyler Perry touches won't turn into gold after-all because unless his new show on Turner Broadcasting System (TBS), House of Payne, polishes up (or perhaps gets some new writers) this show won't be worth a bottle of primary school glitter from the dollar store.Last evening, I came home late from work, cooked a little dinner and watched Perry's House of Payne. Based on the first two episodes, the show could have been called The House of Blues because it was bad - and not as in good either. I mean downright awful - and Tyler Perry is my boy! He's Oprah's boy too, and if Oprah thinks those episodes were funny then I am going to build a school in Africa!
Perry's personal story of overcoming life's obstacles is one I love to hear. Perry's movies 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' and 'Madea's Family Reunion' are nearing cult classic status. Perry broke his mold with the recent 'Daddy's Little Girls' movie. But this House of Payne stuff is bad. Really bad. I kept waiting to laugh, but all I could do was fall asleep. After all, I had worked late. I felt bad for Allen Payne (of Jason's Lyric fame). I envisioned Jada Pinkett-Smith, Payne's love interest in the movie Jason's Lyric, rubbing his head and telling him that it would be okay.
Full of stereotypical loud-mouthed black people, bad one liners, bad acting, sassy children and "hue jokes", House of Payne has all the markings of a low-budget theatre comedy despite the historic multi-million dollar television deal Perry secured for the first 100 episodes. Perry, who appeared as Madea, couldn't even save the first two episodes for me. But with 100 episodes planned, it has to get better.I plan to give House of Payne another shot next week in hopes that it will get better, but I will not support buffoonery long-term.

I didn't watch the program. My grandma did. She is a huge fan of his stage plays and the Medea movies. Her opinion of the program I do not know. She may be nearing 80 years, but her mind is sharp and critical about what she likes and doesn't like.
It was one hot mess to say the least! It made "Good Times" seem like Shakespeare in the park, And, poor formerly good looking Allen Payne who has aged hard, stuck with the bad scripts and even worse coworkers, just one hot mess. Looks like the gold is getting tarnished with Mr Perry, better get a new Madea movie out to keep rolling in the coins.
^LOL!! Hilarious. LOL!
I have never found Tyler Perry's stuff to be funny. I think Madea is a step above black face and his movies aren't hardly works of art. So it doesn't surprise me that the show sucked. I would have been more surprised if the show was actually good.
I think the casting is the problem.
Ok am I that only person that finds the show "House of Pain" the most insulting show ever.
Tyler Perry has manage to take every negative stereo type there is related to African Americans and wrap it up in one show to be aired on national TV.
Tyler Perry is phrased for his recent plays, that have always manage to de pic our black men as unstable, cheating no good men and our woman as being incapable in being able to satisfy a black man.
House of Pain has taken a family similar to the Cosby show and turns them into a dysfunctional, crack addicted, gay family.
It is bad enough that the media portrays us in this way, but to have a member of our own race actually profit from such a show is insulting and a disgrace to the African American community.
Im a Tyler Perry fan and i loved all the plays but to be honest, this series is horrible. I mean terrible, i would say new writers could possible save it, and new actors wouldnt hurt either. They also could use a live audience and not laugh track. But they probably use laugh track b/c they know if there were a live audience, it would be quiet as hell on the set. Peace
Perry, Norbit (whatever the actor's name who portrays this buffoon, his name escapes me) and all the other black men who dress up in drag disparaging black women show a deep-seated hatred of black women.
I wonder how their show of disregard would go over if they slandered white women with racist, sexist cariacatures of white womanhood?
They'd probably be run out of town on a rail or worse.
But, it is so much okay to lambast, insult and degrade black women. Open season on black women in film, the media, and society is sanctioned and approved.
It is one thing for white men, and men of other races to publicly disparage black women.
It is another thing when it is done by black men at the expense of black women's dignity and image just to make the almighty buck.
Such greed for money by any means necessary and such hatred of black women by these Tyler Perry types only shows the mass infusion of internalized racism and sexism that they have bought into against black women.
(I see where you are from my hometown Houston. Well, a big "Howdy, partner" to you from a fellow Texan. Please feel free to stop by my blog for a visit)
Whats up with all this insult to our race stuff! Are you people being series. Well hate to tell you but a lot of black families has been affected by the 1980s crack epidemic and the actors for the most part are all good actors. I watch the show I see them as being a real typical family the humor is no more offensive then the Chappell show and that show did fine. I really don’t see the problem with the show its about real life and real life current events, I like it!!!

of course you are going to have your haters as you see the comments left above and they have their right to speak, but i think that what tyler perry is doing is great- he is not insulting his race, he is actually touching subjects and situations we deal with its not stereo types you idiots is real life, to me it lets me know that there are other people out there who go through the same thing and your not alone.. im sorry that people have negative things to say bout the accomplishments tyler perry has shown.. im sorry people cant handle it ... im sorry u want to be a hater... pray on it... the show is awesome the cast is too...
some of you bloggers dont got nothin better to do then hate on the next... taking things out of context and making everything about racism.. too extream dolls... the show is great... the cast is awesome and very talented.. the show hits issues that are in alot of homes.. dont compare this show to others see it for what it is... i hope it remains with many more seasons to come because i will be watching every show...
I disagree I felt the House of Payne was excellent show that had me laughing and thinking. It was great a show without the but shaking and the killing that does not have to be a reality in our society. It was great to show the support that we as a black community can have when we work at it. I enjoy and look forward to more of the same.
I understand why people would see Tyler Perry's since of humor insulting or degrating, but it's not like he pulled all of this stuff out of thin air. All the events he uses happen in real life. Being a black man I've seen this it happen. Men cheating or abusing there wives, but that is not the main point of his scripts. If you would look at the message in the story rather than the plot that took place you would see Tyler Perry has nothing but good intentions. People who rais a war flag emediatly after a small comment is made befor listning to the rest of the statment are very ignorent.

I feel pretty bad for everyone involved in this series. It's tanking horribly, and the commercials they run for the show aren't helping. It really HAS come off as nothing but a bunch of loud, over-acting black people trying to play a family and failing miserably.
I'm not sure writers can save this show... the premise of another chitlin style, over-acted, overly-loud family comedy has so little potential to catch an audience anymore. It's been done to death.
I THINK THE SHOW IS FUNNY AND GOOD..YALL ARE JUST SOME HATERS..DON'T GET UPSET BECAUSE THE SHOW TELLS THE TRUTH..EVERY THING IS NOT A FAIRY TAILS LIKE THE COSBY SHOW..OUR KIND BEING ON CRACK AND LEAVING THEIR FAMILY IS TRUE..LOUD MOUTH PEOPLE IS TRUE AND SASSY KIDS AND TEENAGERS IS TRUE IM ONE OF THEM SASSY ONES..IF YOU CANT STAND THE HEAT THEN GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN..YOU CANT CHANGE NOTHING IN THIS WORLD TODAY..WE GOT ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GIVE US BUT IT DONT HELP..AT LEASE THEY ARE STICKING TOGETHER AS A FAMILY AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING DISSING A BLACK MAN BECAUSE HE IS DOING HIS THING YALL NEED TO GET ON YALL JOB AND STOP HATING
I am a full time career firefighter for a big city. This show is funny but I do not appreciate how the show makes firefighters look. This show puts images in peoples heads that firefighters are lazy and imature. I wish you would have researched how men and women act at the station and everyday life. Thanks for your time on this,
I have nothing against the story (crack, etc). I do, however, believe the acting is horrible. The lines aren't funny, mostly predicitable, and maybe new lines would help. The actoring are horrible. Sorry.
I think the show is great. My kids and get together to watch it every Wednesday evening and hate to miss an episode keep it up Tyler and I really hope Janine gets her act together
yall dont no what you are talking about because terry perry is a example of a hero because why yall are here talking bad about him he is helping built new orleans again helping people believe again and anyways his show house of payne is funny yall just dont have a sense of humor or yall dont no what happenes to family like that in the show so stop dissing him and the show because atleast he has a sense of humor and isnt afaid to be some one else or dress like some one esle like a woman for example if yall actually no him yall see that every thing is based on his life and life of the unfortunate
I dont think the show is insulting from a race standpoint its insulting from a quality standpoint!!! I know we have better black writers and the ones thats writing the show should even know better than to put out something so horrible!IT seems sometimes us as black people want to see ourselves on screen so bad we accept almost anything!
BLESS YOU TYLER PERRY & THE "HOUSE OF PAYNE" FAMILY!

I love this show and I think it is a postive african american show that you just don't see anymore. We need to stop being so defensive because everybody has these problems and in this day and age there are sassy kids and family members who are on drugs and we don't know and bad kids. I am so sick of people jumping on people when they are trying to give good entertainment. What other shows do we have that are positive? I am sick of FLAVOR FLAV that is degrading and ridiculous. College hill is the same. It is a shame we are not asking BET why they don't have this show or any other positive shows like CW had.
This show falls into the same catergory as so many other problem shows of black life on T.V. A backdrop of crack cocain use and Happy fat black people is an old stichk. It is a poor representation of us and is boring.
this show is something funny that people like to watch.Flavor flaves show is not dagrading it is a man finding love in the world of horror
girls.CRACK was what janine crazy self did that ruin the family.
WATCH THIS SHOW
im sitting here shocked at all the comments about the show. i think it is so great. i laugh my butt off every time i watch it. im really hooked and cant wait till new season starts. not to mention cj is really hot!
Tyler Perry is a wonderful person. If it wasn't for TP other people - who don't know about us - would continue to put out shows and movies that depict us in some of the worst ways. TP living and knowing the life of a "black man" has every right to show and tell what he has experienced. Not every character on the show is down and out. Most importantly the show displays the power of love in the black family.
this show is not funny. i have officially given it 10 times, and have not laughed once. sorry for Perry's upbringing, but funny is funny, and this show SUCKS. dont say it's funny just to support our black community. you are just lowering the standards for comedy.being loud and ghetto isnt funny. its just sad.
Only sad n sorry "baby mamas" think this sort of comedy is funny.yeah, we all know what goes on in a household, we dont need it spelled out. adding lazy, ignorant, fat , and loud to the equation isnt helping society by watching this.
I'm sorry but I gave this "comedy" a chance but it sucks horribly and is not funny at all. The main character, Curtis Payne, is just all over the place acting like a crazy ass negro is expected to act (remember how blacks were portrayed in the 30' and 40's) I have nothing but love for Tyler Perry but this show is horrible and I can't wait until the network cancels this mess. Man what I happen to the days of good black comedies/dramas like The Cosby's, A Different World, Good Times, The Jefferson's, The Fresh Prince, and Living Single? I'm done with supporting things just because their "black made", this show just isn't funny or inspirational. PS: If a white man had produced some bs like this everybody would be up in arms.....
^^^^ Most true thing anyone has said thus far.
Iwatch the show every day and it is my (BOTOX TO MY FACE) I dont to see the doctor uncle Curtis ilove you i love you more when you robbed the Bank.LOL
